Negotiations between the CAW and the Detroit Three automakers (General Motors, Ford and Chrysler) officially kicked off in Toronto August 14-15. At a time of growing prosperity, and profits for the auto sector, following previous sacrifices from CAW members, the car companies are demanding even greater concessions, including permanently lower wage rates for all new hires. The union is determined to win the best deal possible for members and is committed to make progress on working conditions, not move backwards.
